CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT
Item is focusing its efforts on increasing productivity in all aspects of its operations. Manufacturing is often the primary focus of these types of productivity initiatives, but at Item this focus applies to all staff, professional, and related operations as well, and quality goals and objectives are established and tracked.
Item doubled its engineering staff in 2003, to provide faster, better and more comprehensive product design, project management and manufacturing services to its clients. Item's engineering staff is well versed in SolidWorks, Pro-Engineer and most other CAD disciplines.
In order to reach its quality and business goals, Item has made a major commitment to training. In addition to English classes, staff and professionals are required each year to establish training goals and objectives. Some of the courses and professional skills that were introduced in 2003 are: Six Sigma, Lean Enterprise, SPC, Project Management, flowcharting and FDA Design Control. Most managers, engineers and staff professionals, and all of the Quality Team take these and other courses.
